The annual symposium allows teachers, musicians, philanthropists, and local not-for-profits to meet with students and members of the community to discuss the state of arts education in Santa Barbara. These meetings provide the foundation for creating better, more focused programs in the future. Additional educational outreach initiatives include collecting instruments for students in need, grant funding for community programs that wish to make use of resources at the Santa Barbara Bowl, says Kenny Slaught, along with scholarships for college students studying the performing arts. In addition, the foundation funds a kid’s program at Cottage Hospital and many in-school and after-school programs, most notably in areas most affected by the concert season at the Santa Barbara Bowl. The Notes for Notes program, on the other hand, provides students with free instruments and music lessons, with a large volunteer committee facilitating these education outreach initiatives.
